Claude Code CLI Installation and TreeRouter Configuration (CC Switch)

This guide explains how to install Claude Code CLI on Windows and use the Claude model services provided by TreeRouter through CC Switch. After completing the configuration, you can run claude in PowerShell or CMD and access models through TreeRouter.

1. Prerequisites#

Before you begin, make sure that:
You have a working TreeRouter account.
Claude Code CLI is installed or ready to be installed.
CC Switch is installed or ready to be installed.
Your network can access https://treerouter.com/.
The TreeRouter token group you intend to use contains models supported by Claude Code.
Note: This guide applies to Claude Code CLI. To configure Claude Desktop, refer to the Claude Desktop configuration guide.

2. Install Claude Code CLI#

Open PowerShell and run the following command:
irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex
If you use CMD, run:
curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.cmd -o install.cmd && install.cmd && del install.cmd
After installation, close the current terminal and open a new PowerShell or CMD window. Run the following command to verify the installation:
If a version number appears, Claude Code CLI has been installed successfully.

3. Install CC Switch#

Follow the official TreeRouter guide to install CC Switch:

After installation, confirm that CC Switch opens normally. You will import the TreeRouter token into CC Switch and enable the corresponding Claude Code configuration later.
Open CC Switch and confirm that the Claude Code page is selected. The default configuration on this page is normally named Claude Official.

4. Create a Token for Claude Code#

Open the TreeRouter website and sign in:
https://treerouter.com/
After signing in, select Console > Token Management > Add Token.

Enter the following information on the token creation page:
Name: Enter an easily recognizable name, such as Claude Code Token.
Token Group: Select the group you want to use with Claude Code. Make sure it contains the Claude models you need.
Quota Settings: Set a quota based on your requirements. Leave the default settings if no quota restriction is needed.
Access Restrictions: Leave the default settings unless you have specific network access requirements.
After confirming the information, click Submit.

5. Open the CC Switch Import#

After the token is created, the token list will appear.
Find the token you just created. Open the Chat drop-down menu on the right side of that token's row, then select CC Switch.

6. Select the Claude Code Configuration and Open CC Switch#

The Connect to CC Switch window will appear.
Configure it as follows:
Application: Select Claude.
Name: Enter an easily recognizable name, such as My Claude.
Primary Model: Select the model to use as the primary Claude Code model.
Haiku Model: Select a model as needed. If you have no special requirements, use the same model as the primary model.
Sonnet Model: Select a model as needed. If you have no special requirements, use the same model as the primary model.
Opus Model: Select a model as needed. If you have no special requirements, use the same model as the primary model.
Choose models based on those available to your token group. The example uses claude-opus-4-8 for every model role, but you can select other Claude models permitted by the group.
After confirming the configuration, click Open CC Switch.

Your browser may ask for permission to open an external application. Allow the browser to open CC Switch.

7. Import the Claude Code Configuration#

After CC Switch opens, it displays the provider configuration to be imported.
Check the following details carefully:
Application Type is set to Claude.
Provider Name is easy to recognize, such as My Claude.
API Endpoint uses the TreeRouter address.
API Key was added automatically and is displayed in masked form.
The Haiku, Sonnet, Opus, and Multimodal Models match your selections.
After confirming the details, click Import.

8. Enable the Configuration and Test Connectivity#

After the import succeeds, return to the Claude Code configuration list in CC Switch.
Find the imported configuration, such as My Claude, and click Enable.

After enabling it, click the Connectivity Test button on the right side of the configuration.

If Connection Successful appears at the top of the page, the CC Switch configuration is working.
Important: After enabling the configuration, close all open PowerShell and CMD windows, then open a new terminal. This ensures that Claude Code CLI reads the latest configuration written by CC Switch.

9. Verify Claude Code CLI#

Open a new PowerShell or CMD window and navigate to your project directory.
Run the following command to start Claude Code CLI:
If Claude Code asks whether you trust the current workspace on first launch, confirm that it is your own project directory and follow the prompts to continue.

After Claude Code CLI opens, enter a simple test prompt, for example:
Confirm in one sentence that the connection is working.

If the model responds normally, Claude Code CLI has been configured successfully to use TreeRouter through CC Switch.

10. Troubleshooting#

claude Is Not Recognized as a Command#

Claude Code CLI may not have been installed correctly, or its installation directory may not be included in your system's PATH environment variable.
Run the installation command again. After installation, close the terminal and open a new PowerShell or CMD window.

Claude Code CLI Still Uses the Default Service#

Check the following:
The newly imported My Claude configuration is active in CC Switch.
The Claude Code page is selected, not the Claude Desktop page.
You reopened PowerShell or CMD after enabling the configuration.
Old ANTHROPIC_API_KEY or ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL environment variables have not been set manually on the computer.
If you previously configured Claude Code manually, make sure the old configuration does not override the configuration currently enabled in CC Switch.

The Connectivity Test Fails#

Check the following:
The TreeRouter token is enabled.
The selected Claude models are available in the token group.
The configuration is enabled in CC Switch.
The TreeRouter API endpoint was entered or imported correctly.
Your network can access https://treerouter.com/.

Claude Code Prompts You to Sign In#

If TreeRouter is enabled through CC Switch but Claude Code CLI still prompts you to sign in, close all terminal windows and open a new terminal before running claude again.
If the prompt still appears, return to CC Switch, confirm that My Claude is marked as In Use, and run the Connectivity Test again.

Should I Select Claude or Claude Desktop?#

When configuring Claude Code CLI, select the configuration entry for Claude Code / Claude.
Do not select Claude Desktop. The Claude Desktop entry is intended for the desktop application, not Claude Code CLI in the terminal.
